Unit 14: AI in Business Intelligence and E-Learning

Commentary

This unit explores two application fields of AI: business intelligence (BI), and e-learning.

Unit Purpose

When you complete this unit, you will be able to

• Define business intelligence, and its main tasks and components.
• Explain how AI techniques, such as CSPs, Bayesian networks, statistical learning, and decision-making, are useful in BI. List the components of BI that use these techniques, and describe the extent to which they are used.
• Analyse selected applications of AI in e-learning, especially in intelligent tutoring systems and distance education support systems.

This unit does not list any specific reading materials related to the application of AI to business intelligence and e-learning. You will be asked to find papers that are of interest to you, or fit into your background in business (or both). Activities

• Try to compose a mini-proposal that will show how to use AI techniques to solve problems in your area of interest. You can focus on how to improve the usability and/or performance of the relevant service software.
