Unit 14: AI in Business Intelligence and E-Learning

Commentary

This unit explores two application fields of AI: business intelligence (BI), and e-learning.

Unit Purpose

When you complete this unit, you will be able to

  • Define business intelligence, and its main tasks and components.
  • Explain how AI techniques, such as CSPs, Bayesian networks, statistical learning, and decision-making, are useful in BI. List the components of BI that use these techniques, and describe the extent to which they are used.
  • Analyse selected applications of AI in e-learning, especially in intelligent tutoring systems and distance education support systems.

Notes:

This unit is optional. Those who are familiar with or interested in BI and e-learning can go through the unit and use these topics for their assignments or projects.

You will be asked to find papers that are of interest to you, or fit into your background in business (or both). Students who need more specific guidance to find relevant materials can consult the following resources:

  • Search "business intelligence" on Google Scholar, and the Elsevier and Springer digital libraries through AU library.

Activities

  • Try to compose a mini-proposal that will show how to use AI techniques to solve problems in your area of interest. You can focus on how to improve the usability and/or performance of the relevant service software.
